The name of this wine is a tribute to the beard of goats that are used to graze in the Etna vineyards. It is a pearl among Sicilian wines. Produced exclusively with grapes from native vines, the Barbazzale Rosso, after fermentation rests partly in steel and partly in barriques. Single.
The Cottanera company is today one of the most important companies in the Etna area. It is a wine producing reality born in the 60s as a hazel grove by the grandfather of the current owners.
The conversion to the vineyard began in the 1970s thanks to its favorable position. In fact we are in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, a village on the slopes of the famous ETNA volcano at about 700 meters above sea level, in the province of Catania.
The early 1990s led to the search for a progressive technological modernization and by inserting varieties of varieties, including international ones, and it was always at that time that the company park reached those that are the current one hundred hectares, of which about 65 are at the moment planted with vines.
The vines are cultivated in full respect of nature and the environment and produce fine fruits, honest, rich and concentrated in all their organoleptic nuances. Bunches that in the cellar are interpreted in the sign of those that are the most ancient local traditions, enhancing and enhancing all that the territory and the season have created.
Those that are produced today from the winery of Castiglione di Sicilia are wines with a strong modern character, at the same time both fascinating and elegant in revealing their unmistakable Sicilian soul.
